Stainless steel

As part of the same group as ThyssenKrupp Nirosta, we can offer our customers stainless steel materials which are indispensable in many applications. The advantages lie in high corrosion resistance, good processability (weldable), high heat resistance, ease of maintenance and excellent hygienic properties. In addition, stainless steel has a very attractive appearance, is durable and highly cost-effective. The latter is particularly important with regard to environmental protection.

Steel properties

Ferritic chromium(-molybdenum) steels generally have a lower elongation and corrosion resistance than austenitic Cr-Ni-(Mo) steels. This leads to demonstrably less distortion when used in high temperatures. Their heat resistance is lower than austenitic steels.

In the as-delivered condition, austenitic chromium-nickel(-molybdenum) steels have higher elongation values and generally greater corrosion resistance. In contrast to the ferritic
chromium(-molybdenum) steels, they are not magnetizable in the as delivered condition. However, heavier forming results in the formation of deformation martensite which may lead to magnetizability.

Surfaces
Surface finish
1D Hot-rolled, heat-treated, pickled, de-scaled, rough surface
Customary standard for the majority of steel grades to ensure good corrosion resistance.
Also customary finish for processing. Not as smooth as 2D or 2B.
2B Cold-rolled, heat-treated, pickled, cold temper rolled, smooth, clean surface
Most common finish for the majority of steel grades to ensure good corrosion resistance, smoothness and evenness.
Also customary finish for processing.
2R Cold-rolled, bright-annealed, also skin-passed if necessary, smooth, clean bright, reflective
Smoother and brighter than 2B.
Also as customary finish for processing.
